The Snohomish Chamber of Commerce is excited that the state senate has included the state route number 9 Snohomish river bridge replacement project in the State Transportation proposed budget. Funding for the environmental planning process and preparing the final project design is the first step in solving a key issue for SR 9 traffic.

The City of Snohomish is facing severe transportation safety and congestions issues with the current condition of State Route 9. Of primary importance is the two lane bridge at the Snohomish River. Without improvement to this bridge the bottleneck of traffic on SR 9 can never be fully relieved in Snohomish.

Our Snohomish Chamber in Action Committees 2008 co-chairs, Colleen Hill and Kirk Williams spoke with Senator Hobbs on several occasions about these issues and with the input he received from other 44th district constituents, Senator Hobbs sponsored SB6072 that addressed the funding of the beginning process to replace the Snohomish River Bridge. The request became a State budget proviso that was awarded funding.

The Snohomish Chamber is grateful that Senator Hobbs understands the importance and took action toward SR 9 improvements that are critical to the future of the East Side of Snohomish County. Sue Sullivan, President
